2011 Young Filmmakers Workshops

The Denver Film Society’s Young Filmmakers Workshops are leading filmmaking camps for Denver’s teenage filmmakers, ages 12-19. In the workshops, participants have opportunities to learn the art of filmmaking, refine their work with film industry professionals, collaborate with other young filmmakers, and exhibit their films in public premieres.

Introductory Workshop - June 27- July 8 at Denver Open Media
The Denver Film Society’s youth filmmaking camp begins with an introductory Young Filmmakers Workshop. Designed for beginners, this two-week course in basic filmmaking teaches students to create their own short, narrative film.

Masters Class - August 1-12 at Denver Open Media
In their second year, students can continue with the Masters Class, a two-week course for filmmakers looking for more in-depth instruction. Topics include non-narrative story development, advanced audio, lighting, editing, and an overview of careers in film production. Past lecturers have included Colorado Public Radio film critic Howie Movshovitz as well as local Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Daniel Junge and Academy Award winner Donna Dewey. In recent years, several graduates of our Masters Class have gone on to pursue film at nationally-known programs such as New York University and Loyola Marymount.  Denver Open Media is located at 700 Kalamanth St. in the Santa Fe Arts District

Animation Workshop - July 11-22
In 2011, we are expanding the Young Filmmakers Workshop with a new Animation offering. The Animation course will teach the basics of two dimensional animation, focusing on essential narrative elements like character development and story-telling.
The Animation Workshop will take place on the campus of the Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design - 1600 Pierce Street, Lakewood, CO 80214

Scholarships - APPLICATIONS DUE BY MAY 10!
Reflecting our mission of bringing film to diverse communities, we have made a point of offering significant scholarships for deserving youth to attend the Young Filmmakers Workshops. To request information about a scholarship, please contact youngfilmmakers@denverfilm.org.
Students who cancel within one month of the workshops are only eligible for a 50% refund.
