EVENT ALERT!!! National Portfolio Day - Want an Animation Degree?

If you are thinking about getting an animation degree, some of the top schools will be at the National Portfolio Day.   It is a great event, but can be a bit crazy -  lines for some of the top schools can be long and reach around the corner.   So get there a bit early and bring everything from figure drawings to demo reels.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Representatives from the nation’s top art and design schools will be on the RMCAD campus to share information about their schools and provide feedback about your portfolio. High school artists who wish to attend an Art + Design College are encouraged to attend.
  • RMCAD Information Session 9:30 am in the Mary Harris Auditorium
Before the portfolio review event starts, you are invited to join us for an information session led by Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design's Vice President for Admissions + Marketing, Angela Carlson.
  • Portfolios will be reviewed 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
RMCAD and all of the participating colleges will review portfolios from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in various buildings throughout the campus. When you arrive, stop by the white check-in tent on the main lawn to pick up a program and sign-in. There is no cost to attend and you do not need to register or RSVP in advance.

What is National Portfolio Day?
National Portfolio Days are educational events for young artists held at host colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada. Portfolio Days bring together students and experienced college representatives, who review artwork, offer critique, discuss college plans, and share information about their schools.

These events are not an examination or a competition. The art college representatives are interested in your development, look forward to reviewing your work, and will provide you with helpful information for this next important step in your education. We urge you to use your time at Portfolio Day to discuss your work with as many representatives as possible.

Who should attend?
Any high school student considering studying art or design at a college level should participate in National Portfolio Day. At Portfolio Day, you'll get a small taste of what it could be like to attend a professional art program. Keep in mind you may hear many different opinions about your work. Do not hesitate to explain to the college representatives how you develop your ideas, and where you want to go with them.

What should you bring?
Most of the college representatives you speak with will spend approximately 15 minutes reviewing your portfolio and providing feedback. Bring your best original artwork (10 or fewer pieces is fine). If your work is large, 3-dimensional or otherwise hard to carry, you can bring photographs of the work instead. Some of the schools reviewing work, but not all, will have laptops available to look at work that needs to be viewed on a computer. You may bring your own laptop if you wish.
